The surrounding region

The centre of Alsace is a region with an outstanding heritage, kept alive by the determination and expertise of its inhabitants. There is a huge choice of things to see and do, with castles perched up on hillsides, forests, vineyards as far as the eye can see and picture-postcard villages with charming half-timbered houses. After going round the Seigneurie, you’ll have found out what the region can offer and you can explore for yourself this land marked by the hand of history. You’ll find below some suggestions of what to do and enjoy within the space of a single day or over a longer stay.

Explore the Barr geological trail or take a walk in and around fabulous villages such as Andlau, Itterswiller, Mittelbergheim and Dambach-la-Ville.

From the Seigneurie, pick up your sketchbook and set off with a local artist on a Rando’croquis hike offering outstanding views of the surrounding countryside or walk up to have a look round superb castles such as Haut-Andlau and Spesbourg.

Hop on a Croq’vélo E-bike for an effortless ride through vineyards and valleys, with a lunch in a local restaurant, enjoy a picnic at the winegrowers, or head off with a Croq’Rando picnic and walk with the kids to the Parc Aventure, with its zip lines and treetop adventure trails.

A hike up to the Hohwald waterfall will get your senses moving.

Explore the Folie Marco museum in Barr, enjoy gingerbread in Gertwiller or go round the Mémoire de vignerons winemaking museum in Mittelbergheim.

Village markets and festivals are great places to be.

You’ll find wonderful wine all round the Pays de Barr, with no less than8 grands crus to enjoy!

And if you’re staying for a few days, it’s well worth making a short hop to Haut Koenigsbourg to see the castle or to Erstein to go around the Musée Würth art gallery.
