September 8. 1862 was erected on the esplanade, the moniment of the Virgin May conforter of all sorrows.
Sculpted in a 7 meters high white stone, a unique stone which comes from Phalsbourg.
It is a masterpiece from the scultor Feuerstein de Barr.
It holds a 2 meters golden cast iron statue of the Virgin Mary.
The pedestal has to sides. On one side the Virgin Mary is sitting down holding Holy Child Jesus which is the coat of arms of the town of Rhinau. And on the other side Saint George fighting against the dragon.
Since the second world war it is it has been the town symbol since it stood up intact when everything around it was destroyed by the numerous devastating bombing attacks.
