Ancienne synagogue d'Odratzheim

Jews first settled in Odratzheim around the 16th century, in small numbers as in other villages in the region. A larger Jewish community was in Dangolsheim, and when they were expelled they took refuge in Odratzheim. When the territory became French, this enabled the community to live normally and increase their numbers. In the 18th century, there were around fifty families. It was around 1850 that their numbers began to dwindle, and today they number no more than 10. The synagogue was built in 1730, and in 1801, at the height of the community, it was considered too small and enlarged in 1819. In 1968, it was sold to a private individual and is now a coach house. Relations between members of the community and the rest of the population have always been excellent.
