Leaving Rouffach, a beautiful wine-growing town with a rich cultural heritage and former capital of the Haut-Mundat (episcopal seigneury of the Bishop of Strasbourg), you'll follow the bucolic Véloroute du Vignoble d'Alsace towards Pfaffenheim and Hatten. You'll leave the wine-growing foothills for the vast expanses of the Alsace Plain, passing through Sainte-Croix en Plaine before joining the River Ill, which you'll follow to Réguisheim and Ensisheim. The small town with its impressive Regency Palace was the capital of the Austrian Habsburg possessions in Alsace. It is also home to a remarkable 100-kilogram meteorite that crashed here in the Middle Ages. Continue on to Battenheim, before entering the heart of the Alsace potassic basin at Pulverheim. You'll pass by the Carreau Rodolphe, an emblematic mining heritage, and have the opportunity to visit the Ecomusée d'Alsace and the Parc du Petit Prince not far from the route. Rejoin the Véloroute du Vignoble at Soultz, then Guebwiller at the foot of the Grand Ballon, which has been awarded the “Pays d'Art et d'Histoire” label, before returning to the starting point.
