Built during the 19th century, washhouses can still be found along rivers in many Alsatian villages and towns.
Some have been destroyed, while others have been carefully restored—such as the Ensisheim washhouse, which stands alongside the Quatelbach stream and was originally built to power the mills along its course.
This spot also serves as a starting point for a lovely walk along the town’s old ramparts.
