Metternich Dictionary Lecture - The Coachman of Europe

The lecture is part of the thematic program on the history of the Habsburgs in Ensisheim and will be led by Yves Moritz, author of the dictionary *Metternich: The Coachman of Europe*, with a foreword by Georges de Habsburg-Lorraine.



Clément de Metternich was a master diplomat of the 19th century. German from the Rhine Valley on his father’s side and Alsatian on his mother’s, he devoted
his entire career to serving Austria. He served the Habsburgs for nearly 40 years as an ambassador and later as foreign minister. Metternich combined these diplomatic roles with that of chancellor for the last 27 years of his career, which ended in 1848 when he was ousted from power by the Revolution.
