Discover the Church of Niederentzen.

It is dedicated to Saint Agatha and is first mentioned in 1302.

The lower part of the bell tower is Gothic in style.

The choir, dating from 1494, houses the relics of Saint Maur, the second patron saint of the Niederentzen parish. There, you can admire an altarpiece carved by Anton KETTERER in 1725.

The nave, rebuilt and enlarged in 1719, was partially destroyed by a flood of the Ill River in 1721.

It features Baroque-style furnishings and an organ dating from 1791, the work of Joseph RABINY, restored in 1841 by the CALLINET firm of Rouffach.

In 1754, an octagonal belfry was added to the three-story bell tower.

The clock mechanism dates from 1912 and was crafted by the UNGERER firm of Strasbourg.

On June 17, 1940, the church’s bell tower was severely damaged during the destruction of the bridge spanning the Ill River. Restoration of the building did not begin until after the war and was completed in 1964; the belfry was then topped with a bell turret.

The entire building and most of its furnishings are listed on the inventory of historic monuments.
