Stattmatten

The history of the village is closely linked to that of the Rhine, a natural border and warrior passage area. Legend has it that the village was founded by a Swiss family, the Heintzens, who lived along the Rhine and were amazed by the beauty of the site. She docked her boat near a bank "an active dock near a green meadow" (Statt en den matten) and eventually settled there permanently.
