The church in Rhinau was severely damaged as a result of the bombing raids in 1944. It was rebuilt between 1955 and 1959 using brick and concrete, under the direction of the architects Chuiot, Kuntz and Schaetzel. The foundation stone was laid in 1955 (a cornerstone was placed at the corner of the façade). This rebuilt church illustrates the tension between preservation and a commitment to modernism. The new building was consecrated in September 1960.

To the right of the present building stands the choir of the old church, built of pink sandstone, which was consecrated in 1540. The rest of the church was bombed in December 1944. Today, the war memorial stands on that site. This building has been a listed building since 1935.
