Launched in 1999 by dedicated volunteers from the Allenwiller socio-cultural association, a major drive to collect vintage farming tools and machinery quickly reached unexpected levels. The collected equipment was stored outdoors and left exposed to the elements.
From 2003 to 2005, the City of Allenwiller-Sommerau and the association pooled their efforts and expertise to build a 1,200 m² hall specifically designed to house this collection.
After more than 10 years of collecting, hard work, and dedication, the collection was finally unveiled to the public for the first time in August 2015.
It comprises more than 600 items, ranging from simple tools to combine harvesters, including all the machinery once used in local mixed farming. Specific areas related to agriculture are featured alongside this equipment, which is organized by theme: the blacksmith’s workshop, the wheelwright’s workshop, an old-fashioned kitchen, and woodcutting.
Staff are available to provide technical explanations on how the equipment works or is used, as well as to guide you through the exhibition.
