What are the consequences for the brain development of children and adolescents?
In 2026, 6- to 17-year-olds spend an average of 4 hours and 11 minutes per day in front of a screen (outside of school), and 16- to 19-year-olds spend more than 5 hours per day (IPSOS/CNL, 2024). Yet the first 20 years of life are crucial: the brain needs screen-free activities—such as hands-on, physical, and social activities—to develop harmoniously.

Time spent in front of screens—often engaged in passive leisure activities—deprives young people of these essential experiences, with serious and long-lasting consequences for their development and health.
How can we protect their future? It is urgent that we establish appropriate rules for screen use.
