The ruins of the Saint-Blaise Church

Located at the exit of the village of Leimbach, in the direction of Rammersmatt, in the Gottesthal valley, the cemetery has replaced the nave in the ruins of the former Saint-Blaise church.

The place of worship was first mentioned in 1181, along with the entire village, as part of the property of the Oelenberg convent and then under the lordship of Thann. The Romanesque porch is a reminder of this early period. Destroyed by Swiss mercenaries in 1468, the building was rebuilt shortly afterwards. Further reconstruction and restoration work took place during the 18th century, but the First World War took its toll on the church and it was decided to rebuild a new church in 1925.

Every February, the pilgrimage of St. Blaise, who is invoked against sore throats, still takes place in Leimbach.
