The Joffre Route

Like its big sister, the Route des Crêtes, the Route Joffre was born out of the need for the French to get around in the Vosges during the First World War. Today, it is a 15km tourist route that attracts nature lovers and offers magnificent panoramic views. Linking Bitschwiller-lès-Thann to Masevaux, the Route Joffre is of particular interest to cyclists because of its varied and challenging route. The Col du Hundsruck, the highest point on the route at 748 metres, has been climbed several times during the Tour de France, including in 2019. Cyclists on this route can enjoy picturesque landscapes, dense forests and panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. What's more, there are a number of hiking trails nearby, offering additional opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.
