Colmar Jazz Festival - Anne Paceo / Selma Doyen

A leading figure on the current music scene, a figurehead of the new ‘crossover’ jazz scene, one of France’s most acclaimed drummers, and a composer renowned for her ability to create a unique musical vision imbued with trance and spirituality, Anne Paceo never ceases to reinvent herself and surprise us. This is evidenced by her appointment to the Order of the ‘Knights of Arts and Letters’ in 2021, her three Victoires de la Musique awards, her fruitful collaborations and her prolific discography, with eight albums and four EPs to her name. In 2025, she released *Atlantis* on her label ‘Jusqu’à la Nuit’.


Inspired by a recent first-time diving experience, the French composer and drummer travelled to Portugal to immerse herself in the depths of the sea. In water that was both icy cold and murky, she discovered a feeling bordering on ecstasy, which Romain Rolland called the ‘oceanic feeling’. This gave rise to new songs inviting us on a dreamlike and soothing journey.


‘Brötchen’, in the vernacular of France’s Grand Est region, means ‘small bread rolls’. This solo piece is made up of small, repeated and modulated phrases, in which improvised music blends the idioms of jazz with contemporary and popular music. The sounds coexist, soothing some hearts and turning a few heads. Revived in September 2025 for the Journées du Matrimoine, this solo centres on a drum kit and various percussive elements (xylophone and hot water bottles).
