Dance: [The 2010s]

Choreographer Sylvain Groud, an artist in residence at La Filature, Scène nationale, has wanted to dance “since adolescence.” As if that age were a territory. However, for him, the stage is not a venue for showmanship. It is his place of truth. The performers entered their teenage years amid the major lockdown of 2020. Who are they today? Sylvain Groud brings to the surface what defines or drives them—their anger, their nonchalance, their elation, their hopes, and their fears. The scenes explore various configurations, from solo to group, even to a pack. Beauty, brutality, and gentleness intertwine, for this piece—like a living organism—is permeated by tensions, impulses, and pulsations, by restlessness and hesitation. [Les 2010], navigating the tension between individuality and belonging, identity and social role, holds up a mirror to that era when the personal and the political were one and the same vital struggle.
