Passage du Théâtre

Passage du Théâtre follows the route of part of the Mittelbach, one of the three streams that surrounded the city, filled in, in 1863. In 1867, the part linking the passage to Rue du Sauvage from the City Hall was covered with a glass roof by the architect Senaire and became the only 19th century covered passage in Alsace. This shopping street has seen a succession of shops come and go. Threatened with destruction several times during the 20th century, it was the victim of a deliberate fire in the 1980s. It was however, restored and reopened in 1989.
