Wintzfelden is part of the commune of Soultzmatt. Its name comes from Wingolt who was a monk in the monastery from Lautenbach and who cleared the place. A gentry’s family was called Wingoltzwelden like Adelaïde von Wingoltzwelden in 1255. From the end of the 18th century to 1828, a little iron-mine was worked. The bad quality of the iron ore and the high price for the transport resulted in the closure of the mine.
