Metamorphoses at the Arsenal

Three artists are taking over the iconic Arsenal hall in the center of Kaysersberg to showcase the full range of their creations to the public. No strangers to group exhibitions, the three friends are eager not only to share their pictorial creations but also to celebrate the beauty of recycled, harvested, and found objects. Thus, you are invited to an encounter where craftsmanship, nature, and poetry converge—where each clock measures time differently and each lamp illuminates an inner world.

Flog—aka Florence Gaudel—a regular at galleries throughout the valley, has always been fascinated by the arts, particularly painting. Depending on the subject, she uses mixed media, acrylics, and pastels. Yet oil remains her medium of choice, whether she works with a brush or a palette knife. Bodies and faces have become her favorite subjects, but she also paints abstract works, with nods
to music. Yet whatever her source of inspiration, her work is always vibrant and joyful.
François Stoerkler, for his part, transforms driftwood and vine wood with the help of all the treasures that nature offers him during his hikes and walks. Thus, a piece of wood washed up by the ocean or found by a mountain lake becomes… a clock! The son of a cooper, he has been devoting himself for just over two years to clock sculpture using staves from century-old barrels, always working with the same philosophy: to give new life by enhancing the material and, in doing so, to re-enchant time.

And then, true to his lifelong passions, charcoal has tirelessly held a place of honor—alongside
watercolor, more recently—in the palette of his creations. The third collaborator prefers to let us discover him and his world as a surprise, where metamorphosis also finds its full meaning: an enchantment of forms imbued with great poetry, delicate lace-like patterns made from simple materials that become unique objects, imbued with history, tenderness, and imagination. And here again, recycled finds and gathered materials reveal a
plant-like soul in reincarnated matter. Tiny glimmers of starlight set against the night …
