Thannenkirch

A small mountain village on the Route du Bois (Wood Route), Thannenkirch is a flower-decorated village with 'Green Holiday Resort' classification, and a paradise for nature lovers. Circular trails enable visitors to discover the various natural environments around the village. The flowering of the cherry trees – one thousand of them – in the spring is a moment of rare beauty.
The proximity of the Taennchel Mountain (which has 'Area of Quiet and Silence' status) and the Castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg (one hour's walk away) make Thannenkirch an ideal spot for a quiet holiday, although fairly close to Alsace's major tourist attractions. 10 km from Ribeauvillé, 14 km from Riquewihr, 25 km from Colmar.
The village is supplied by various local and mobile shops. Visitor facilities include hotels, restaurants, many furnished flats and bed-and-breakfast rooms.

The tradition of woodcarving is present everywhere in the village: in the church, in the town hall, on the public fountains, in the hotels and restaurants and in private homes. A Madonna and Child have been carved on a living oak at the exit of the village, at the starting-point of the nature trail.
