Cemetery Chapel

In the spiritual sphere, Steige, like the neighbouring village of Maisonsgoutte, is a subsidiary of Saint-Martin, a parish itself incorporated into the abbey of Honcourt. A statistic drawn up in 1563 listing Steige among the independent parishes seems unreliable. The first chapel was built by the inhabitants alone. Surrounded by the cemetery, it was first dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Paul, then to Saint Mary Magdalene. The sanctuary, built at the bottom of the village, was enlarged around 1720 when the demographic pressure demanded it.
