In the Middle Ages, Lalaye was part of the parish of Villé. A chapel dedicated to Saint Aurélie is mentioned in the 16th century. The present church, built in 1777, is still placed under the protection of this saint, venerated companion of Saint Ursula. Legend has it that Aurelia had to stay in Strasbourg, ill, while Ursula continued her journey to Cologne. A chapel was built on her grave in Strasbourg in the 9th century, first dedicated to Saint Maurice, then to Saint Aurelia in 1321. The saint is depicted in a stained glass window from the end of the 13th century in Strasbourg cathedral, wearing a long dress with a belt under a decorated mantle. She wears the palm, not as a martyrdom, but as a symbol of her heavenly reward.
