Urbeis

Dominated by Bilstein Castle, Urbeis is a village with a rich mining past, active since the Middle Ages in copper and silver extraction. Its history can be discovered via the Heritage Trail, which traces the mining era and its impact on the local landscape, offering visitors a fascinating dive into the valley's industrial past.


The village is also notable for its beautiful Vosges farmhouses, testimony to traditional architecture and the local art of living. The Maison du Mineur (Miner's House) completes the visit, giving visitors a better understanding of the daily life of the inhabitants in days gone by.


Urbeis is also home to the Humbert farm, which has been farmed organically since 1990. Here, visitors can discover a wide range of local produce: meats, cheeses and other farm specialties, grown and processed with respect for organic agriculture. This experience offers a direct link with the valley's terroir and authentic know-how.
