Steige

In the heart of the Villé valley, Steige is a charming village with traditional Vosges-style houses featuring decorated lintels, reminiscent of the region's typical architectural heritage. Nestled in the back valley, the village offers a peaceful, authentic setting, ideal for exploring and strolling.


Steige is the birthplace of Joseph Meister, famous for being the first human to be vaccinated against rabies thanks to Louis Pasteur. This singular piece of history gives the village a unique historical dimension.


The village is also home to the renowned Nusbaumer distillery, which perpetuates local spirits expertise, offering visitors an insight into Alsatian distilling traditions and techniques. Local farms offer meats and charcuterie, emblematic cheeses such as Munster and Bargkass, and artisanal farm ice creams. These local products allow visitors to sample the authentic flavours of the valley and meet passionate producers.
