Thanville

Located on the historic salt route, Thanvillé is a village with a rich cultural, historical and natural heritage, nestled in a peaceful setting at the entrance to the Villé valley.


The town's architectural jewel is the Château de Thanvillé, the only plain castle in the valley, dating back to the 11th century. Once a fortress for surveillance and toll collection, it now takes the form of an elegant 17th-century château, surrounded by a large square courtyard and an emblematic tower-porch. Guided tours cover more than ten centuries of history, and children's activities are available in summer.


A stone's throw away, the German military cemetery recalls the more recent pages of European history. Surrounded by greenery, it is a moving place of remembrance, conducive to reflection and understanding of the key events of the twentieth century.


Thanvillé can also be explored on foot thanks to its heritage trail, which traces the village's importance as a communications route. These signposted itineraries invite you to stroll through the narrow streets, observe typical buildings and better understand the strategic role the village has played over the centuries.
