La Ballastière Water Recreation Area

The name of the water recreation area, “La Ballastière”, refers to the history of Bischheim, in which the railway played a big part. This is where ballast material was extracted to be used under railroad ties.



Located on the edge of Bischheim, La Ballastière is now part of a protected nature area, a remnant of an original site of the Ried (water meadows along waterways with wooded banks).
It provides a lush green setting, perfect for relaxing in summertime with designated swimming areas, sunbathing on the beach, sports and leisure activities, fitness paths, and more. Lots of good times to be had with family and friends!
