Archéologie Alsace is a public institution that carries out scientific, heritage, educational and cultural missions in Alsace.
Its creation is the result of strong political will and an unprecedented partnership between the Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin departments. This ambition came to fruition in 2006 with the pooling of their resources and the establishment of the institution in Sélestat. Its location enables it to operate optimally throughout the Alsace region.
Archéologie Alsace works to reconcile scientific interests, heritage conservation and economic and social development.
A major player in regional archaeology, the service provides a complete range of archaeological services: advice to developers, field research and analysis of results, restoration and conservation of objects and remains, and cultural promotion and mediation activities. The institution has developed a wide range of chronological and thematic expertise; its team now includes around fifty staff members and more than twenty different professions related to archaeology.
