This rocky escarpment, situated below the Col de Saverne road, owes its name to the Legend of a Prince of Lorraine said to have escaped his pursuers by leaping from this rock on his horseback. Traces of his mount's hoof prints are engraved in the stone close to the former Road of the Hill.
