La Meule

The Millstone: Wood, Charcoal, Men is an exhibition space dedicated to the history of charcoal around the world. Through information panels, photos, hands-on displays and a short film, visitors can discover the importance of charcoal for the development of humanity, free of charge. The building, which stands at the foot of Fleckenstein Castle, was constructed using local wood and resembles a millstone in both shape and colour. The project was funded by the municipality of Lembach, the Sauer-Pechelbronn community of municipalities, the CEA, the French government, the European Union and the Charbonniers du Fleckenstein association, which was the project owner.
