Wœrth is one of the oldest towns in northern Alsace. It was first a Roman colony, then became the capital of the canton until the revolution. The city walls that remain today date back to the early 14th century. On August 6, 1870, the heights of Wœrth witnessed one of the deadliest battles of the 1870 war. Today, a museum dedicated to this battle is located in the historic Wœrth Castle.
