Description

Forstheim came under the rule of the Dukes of Lorraine in 1047, before being gifted to the Strasbourg chapter by Duke Charles of Lorraine several centuries later. In the 16th century, the village was incorporated into the provostship of Haguenau and became a village of the kingdom, also exercising judicial authority over Eschbach and Hegeney. Annexed to France in 1648 following the Treaty of Westphalia, Forstheim remained part of France until 1783. After the war of 1870, it was incorporated into the German Empire, a situation that lasted until the First World War, during which fourteen inhabitants of the commune lost their lives.
