Description

Erected 1888, a plinth in limestone, hollow (with a room with a pillar and lateral windows). On the front face a door a bronze window frame and two commemorative plaques. On top of the plinth a bronze lion. On the upper pedestal a group sculpted in bronze representing a soldier dying and the Angel of Victory. The monument was erected by Bavaria to commemorate its soldiers that died in the battle of Woerth 6th August 1870. Erected in 1888 and inaugurated 6 August 1889. The statue and bronze reliefs were the work of the sculptor Wilhelm von Ruemann and the foundry was Miller of Munich. The plaques carry the names of the battles of 1870.
