Rott

First mentioned in 745 under the name “Chrodo,” the village of Rott has a history closely linked to Wissembourg Abbey, on which it once depended. Its vineyards, renowned for centuries, have endured many trials, particularly during World War II.

Victim of phylloxera, the insect that decimated Europe's vineyards, Rott was able to recover thanks to the solidarity of its winegrowers. They joined forces with those of Cleebourg, Oberhoffen-lès-Wissembourg, and Steinseltz to found a wine cooperative, thus perpetuating their ancestral know-how and the reputation of their wines.

Today, the village continues to charm visitors with its authenticity and wine-growing heritage, a living testament to the resilience and passion of its inhabitants.
