In 1826, the Simonis family had a mansion (simply called the "Château") built. Later, in 1895, this mansion was sold to the Cistercian order of Oelenberg, who decided to add a church to the building and turn it into a conventual house to provide accommodation for Trappistine sisters. From then on, the mansion became known as the Abbey of Our Lady of Altbronn.
