Chapel Our Lady

In the early 19^th century, in Duttlenheim, lived an unlucky couple which had only deaf and dumb children. The desperate father swore to build a chapel if a healthy child were to be born in his home. He got his wish in 1808 and thus, as a sign of gratitude, Mr. Lorentz Wunderlich had this chapel built on one of his estates next to the main road. To improve the building, he went to pick himself the Vosgian sandstone needed for the construction.




The inscription "L.W. 1838 M.W." can be found on the lintel of the gate leading to the garden, suggesting that Mr. Wunderlich had the property closed off in 1838, to protect this small masterpiece.
The lintel had to be moved and currently serves as a front step to enter the chapel. The current owners preserve this oratory from the harshness of the weather.
