For the very first time, an exhibition analyzes the history, evolution and challenges behind the regional costumes worn in the Pays de Hanau.
The Musée du Pays de Hanau is presenting a major exhibition on regional costume, thanks to a major collections project involving almost 3,000 textile items - between 2022 and 2024 - which studied rediscovered treasures.
Based on the pieces of clothing worn in the region, their evolution and formal specificities, the exhibition looks at the users and functions behind the variety of fabrics, embroideries and the infinite number of techniques employed.
Can textiles retrace life paths? How did the black bow headdress come into being? Reappropriations, whether artistic, historical or folkloric, will also help us to grasp the richness, longevity and sources of inspiration that make up this local textile history.
Nearly 300 works of art are on display in this new exhibition at the Musée du Pays de Hanau.
