Wittersheim

Wittersheim, in Alsatian "Witterschè" is a village in the historical and cultural region of Northern Alsace. The village is located a few kilometers northwest of Brumath. Wittersheim was occupied by the French army during the Saar offensive in 1939. The sights to discover in Wittersheim include the following: Church of St. Ulrich, the cross of the way.
If you follow the direction of Minversheim, in a small valley a few steps from the road, you will find an old therapeutic source dedicated to Saint Ulrich. Its waters were renowned for their effectiveness against skin diseases, contagious diseases and the treatment of scrofula. This place has recently been converted for walking and integrated into the hiking trail. A story gives us the origin of its name, Saint-Ulrich. In the past, the water source flowed between the banns of the municipalities of Huttendorff and Wittenheim and a legal battle began to obtain ownership, a long and fruitless procedure. Then on July 4, St. Ulrich's Day, the spring suddenly and definitively changed its location, flowing clearly over the territory of Wittersheim. In gratitude, the municipality baptized it with the name of the saint of the day, a name that was later given to the church.
