Description

i
The history of the town of Saâles is linked to the mountain pass of the same name. The Col de Saâles has been an important passageway for centuries, bringing the town unusual wealth, thanks to the goods that passed through it. The goods included salt, transported along the Via Salinatorum (the road linking Lorraine and Alsace), and which is probably the origin of the town's name, with Saâles coming from "Salis".

For a picnic, go to the town park: when you arrive in Saâles by the D 1420 from Schirmeck, the park entrance is on your left, 50 m after the traffic island or the cemetery (on the right).
