View over the Rothaine valley

After 500 m, at the intersection, with the markings, you can go down an unmarked path to the right for 100 m to see a viewpoint over the Rothaine valley with a picnic area. Here you are near a rock known as the "Deserter's Cave". Access forbidden (danger due to rock slides and risk of falling).
i Legend has it that Jean, a local man who had been called up to the army, disobeyed orders by leaving the garrison to see his loved one in the village. In the period of Napoleon's Grande Armée, such unauthorised absences were seen as desertions and were strictly punished. Jean is said to have taken refuge in this "cave" to avoid punishment.
