As its name suggest ("Fiancés' Avenue"), Allée des Fiancés is an avenue of elm trees planted by newly-weds in the 18th and 19th centuries. The trail links the hills above the town of Waldersbach to the Col de la Perheux. The tradition was begun by the famous pastor from Ban de la Roche, Jean-Frédéric Oberlin, who encouraged newly-weds to plant a tree as a symbol of their love. Since 1938, the avenue has been listed in France in memory of the pastor's attachment to the spot.
