Marquet Square in Dambach-la-Ville

The 1547 town hall mixes the traditions of the Gothic and Renaissance styles. It is characterised by its campanile and its stepped gable. The old prison today contains the Tourist Office. The bear fountain, also called 'Stockbrunnen', has an octagonal basin, dated 1543. The 1559 column, sculpted with crenels and cables finishes with the representation of a face topped with a bear holding a purse. The Caveau Nartz is a medieval type house built by the clog-maker Alexandre Sermonet, who came from Savoy after the Thirty Years War. The space reserved for the gable on the square is restricted but compensated for by the height of the construction.
