The Church of Saints Peter and Paul is hosting a major exhibition of nativity scenes, each highlighting a different region or country.
This year, the spotlight is on Belgium!
Since the late 19th century, the art of nativity scenes has taken deep root in Belgium.
Specialized workshops known as “sainteries” have sprung up in Ghent, Namur, Liège, Verviers, and Brussels, mass-producing small figurines made of molded and painted plaster, inspired by Italian craftsmanship, with each workshop developing its own unique color palette using pigments mixed with linseed oil.
This unique exhibition invites you to discover these works from across the country, showcasing a remarkable diversity of techniques and craftsmanship: ceramics, marquetry, clay, coil-built pottery, wrought iron…
This exhibition is part of the “Sentier des Crèches des Noëlies” (Noëlies Nativity Scene Trail).
