A cholera epidemic affected the village from July to September 1855. More than 800 inhabitants were sick and 229 people died. Next year, survivors clubbed together and erected a Saint-Gregory-statue. Presented as a pope from the 19th century with a tiara and a cross, Saint Gregory became famous in the 6th century when he stopped the pest epidemic in Rome.
