Description Équipements et services Prices and schedules

Saint Ulrich is said to be the origin of the village of Avenheim. Several Alsatian parishes have him as their patron saint. According to the legend, during a pilgrimage to Rome, he would have crossed Alsace, stopping every 15 to 25 kilometres, and would have created villages by making springs spring up.

Between 1864 and 1868 a pilgrimage church was built, but the bell tower was not completed until 1906. It replaced an old church, then located in the cemetery, which was demolished in 1880. For the patron saint's day of 2004, the interior of the church underwent a superb renovation.

The booklet "Saint Ulrich in Avenheim" by Serge Haag offers numerous illustrations and explanations relating in particular to the building (66 pages, June 2014, on sale at 13€).
