Situated in the heart of the Vosges mountains, Labaroche is a small, peaceful and picturesque mountain village with around thirty villages.
Surrounded by unspoilt nature, the village offers peace and quiet, fresh air and a wide range of sporting activities, including mountain biking and hiking.
Labaroche is home to the remains of the highest fortified castle in Alsace, the Château du Hohnack, which was dismantled on the orders of King Louis XIV. You can explore it on foot, admiring the landscape of alternating meadows, forests and hills, and on some days the majestic Bernese Alps can even be seen in the distance.
During your stay, visit the wood museum, housed in a former sawmill. Here you can discover the old machines used to work this natural material, as well as more than 800 antique wooden toys, and enjoy fascinating tours led by enthusiastic guides. This museum is a real nugget!
During the First World War, Labaroche was caught up in the tragic Battle of the Linge, and during the Second World War, 90% of the town was destroyed by bombing in the winter of 1944-45. It was a turning point in the history of the village. From April to 11th November, visit the Linge Memorial to understand the trench warfare and admire the bravery of the Poilus (the French soldiers during the First World War).
If you want to discover Labaroche as a family, it's easy to get hold of the ‘fun walk - le château du Hohnack' guidebook (only in French), available from the Tourist Office reception desks, and set off on a hike while solving riddles adapted to children's ages.
