From the sung recitation of liturgical texts, this program explores the evolution of Gregorian chant, a free and expressive vocal art rooted in human spirituality. From the 10th to the 13th century, chanters enriched the liturgy with innovative musical poetry, giving rise to the Nova Cantica, then to polyphony, with the emergence of forms such as the motet. This concert brings together works in a variety of styles, united by their quest for prayer and beauty, breathing new life into a forgotten spiritual heritage.
This concert is brought to you in partnership with the Festival Voix et Routes Romanes. Since 1992, Voix et Route Romane has enlivened the buildings along Alsace's Romanesque route with concerts featuring the finest medieval music ensembles from all over Europe.
