Sitting at the foot of the Felsbourg, this chapel was originally dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Inside can be seen remnants of frescoes which used to decorate the choir and the nave. The current title of "St. Wendelin" has taken the place of "Virgin Mary" between the 17th and 18th centuries.
At the time, sickness and epidemics were legion among farm animals; poultry and cattle alike. Thus, many believers called upon the protection of the Patron Saint of herdsmen.
The parish council of Mutzig bought the chapel in 1885.
